A man recently went viral on TikTok after hiring Hong Kong-born American motivational speaker William Hung to announce he was quitting his workplace.
Chris Gonzalez, a 33-year-old man from California, hired Hung, 39, through his Cameo Profile create a video announcing his departure. The video was later shared online by Gonzales’ girlfriend, Joellen Lu, on ICT Tac May 11.
The post has been viewed over 922,000 times to date.
The 31-second video shows Hung letting Gonzalez’s co-workers know at the time that he would be putting his notice. Hung then ended his post with an original song.
“Hi everyone, this is William Hung. Christopher will be giving notice to quit his current job for a new job in two weeks,” Hung says in the recording. “He found a new job, but he will miss you all. You are all amazing, so don’t give up on creating the life you want.”
Talk to BuzzFeedLu said they were thrilled to see the reactions of Gonzalez’s former co-workers to the personalized video message and that he had received private messages telling him what he had done was “epic”.
“We were both working from home, and I was so excited to witness the reaction, knowing he dropped the ‘@here’ [notifying everyone on Slack]and I decided to film the reactions and responses in real time,” Lu said.
“Chris immediately started getting direct Slack messages from his various colleagues congratulating him and saying it was an ‘epic’ way to do it,” she added.
In an interesting twist of fate, Gonzalez’s new co-workers had already seen the viral video, and some suspected the new “Christopher” at their workplace might be the same person Hung was referring to in the clip.

“A new colleague had speculated that the video he had previously seen on TikTok was the new ‘Chris’ in their office, and Chris confirmed,” Lu told BuzzFeed. “When his new boss found out , she proudly shared the video of her new team member in their Slack work, and people loved it. It was almost like a rite of passage.
Lu also revealed that the song Hung was singing in the custom video came as a surprise, as Gonzalez never mentioned anything about him singing in his request.
“Chris never asked or encouraged William to sing – his original masterpiece was self-conceived,” Lu said. “Chris loves his new work and is thrilled to have William Hung a part of this moment.”
